Even if you have your own original songs, it can always be a great idea to make covers (versions) of your favorite songs.

They are a great combination of something familiar and something new.
In a cover, you are uniting a song known to the public and something new, since you contribute your personal style or your vision of that song.
YOU SHOW YOUR PERSONAL BRAND
With a cover you are going to show what you are capable of, your style, your influences, why you sound the way you do, what music you like… and this quickly connects with many people if you do it well.
YOU ARE GOING TO LEARN A LOT
You are going to have to study the original song to see what elements it has, what instruments it uses, and what musical resources the artist has used when composing both the music, the lyrics, and the melodies.
It will help you a lot to improve your own songs.
